5 Ways to Conquer your Fears

Fear is a natural emotion when facing uncertainty. The unknown can be intimidating and is often frightful. The following are ways you can conquer your fears. All require action on your part. No one can alleviate your fears for you. It is up to you to put these 5 methods into action!

1. Recognize that fear is a natural emotion and not something that you should try to avoid. Just like sadness, happiness, or any other emotion, fear occurs as a natural reaction to circumstances. There is nothing good or bad about fear, unless you do not find a way to face it and conquer it.

2. Envision the absolute worst thing that could happen. Most of the time whatever is causing your fear will not cause death or even physical injury. If the worst thing that could happen is emotional pain, that will eventually pass and you will survive (although it may not feel that way at the time). Usually, however, the worst you can imagine will turn out to be not that bad; in fact, the odds are that the worst will never happen.

3. Think about what will happen if you do not face your fear. You will continue avoiding - and dreading - the fear, maybe for the rest of your life. And what will happen if you do face your fear? It will be over. You will no longer have to avoid it and you will be able to put your mind to rest.

4. The biggest fear most people face when attempting something new is the fear of success. Why would you fear success? It may involve increased responsibility or pressure to succeed further. Recognize whether your fear is about failure or success. If you truly fear success, ask yourself why. Take the time to write down your reasons for fearing success as well as the positive results of being successful.

5. Take a deep breath and move forward. Envision the end result. Envision how relieved you will be when it is all over, when your fear has been conquered. The stress that fear has created will be gone and you will be able to focus on the positive once again. Take action and you will no longer be controlled by your fear.
