Eat Healthier at Work

Eating healthy at work is not always easy to accomplish because often there are many tempting unhealthy foods available such as candy bars, potato chips and soda pop from vending machines and there always seems to boxes of fattening doughnuts waiting every morning.
But if a real commitment to eating healthy is made avoiding these unhealthy food temptations can be easily achieved.
One of the obvious things that can be done is to just say no to the junk food offered and opt for a piece of fresh fruit such as apples, pears or oranges or an all natural granola bar or a container of low fat yogurt. Also sliced vegetables such as carrots or celery make a healthy crunchy snack. These types of foods can be easily brought to work if they are not available at the workplace.
It is also a good idea to make a meal plan for the week and stick to it. Choose healthy items for lunch that cane be prepared at home such as a roast chicken breast sandwich on whole grain bread with low fat mayonnaise, salads with fat free salad dressing or low-sodium soups and whole grain breads. Even if you go out to lunch one or two days a week you still can stick to the meal plan because many restaurants have healthy food item choices.
It is also a good idea to make healthy suggestions for the snack room at work. Most snack rooms are filled with unhealthy foods such as processed cheeses and meats, salty chips and candy. Ask that the snack room also include healthy foods such as fresh fruits, trail mix, nuts, seeds, low fat yogurts, unsweetened fruit juices, herbal teas and fresh vegetables. On occasion low fat baked chips, organic popcorn, and wholegrain crackers can be eaten as a snack food.
Also opt for bottled water instead of those sugary sodas. Green tea and unsweetened fruit juices are also great beverage choices.
It is not easy to eat healthy in the workplace, but if a real effort is made and true determination is put into eating healthier foods it will become easier to make healthy food choices while at work.
